Program Overview:

In Waltham, Massachusetts, the Waltham House, the home for little wanderers, is in search of an overnight residential supervisor. Waltham House, one of only three residential group homes in the United States, is the first in New England to be designed exclusively for LGBTQIA adolescents. Its foundational principles are that each child ought to reside in an environment characterized by respect, safety, support, and care from others.

Approximately twelve gay, lesbian, bisexual, and/or transgender adolescents (ages 14–18) can live in the group home in a secure environment with support on-call around the clock. A considerable number of the youth residing at Waltham House have encountered challenges due to their sexual orientation or gender expression, both within their households and during their placements. Their time at Waltham House prepares them for the subsequent phase of their journey, which may involve relocating to their families, securing foster care, or developing the independence necessary to live independently.

How You’re Going to Change Things:

  • Provide close collaboration with the Milieu/Program Director to ensure adequate staffing coverage. Employ, develop, supervise, and evaluate personnel providing direct care. Disputes between employees and personnel should be arbitrated. Conduct staff meetings, provide them with training, and oversee them every week.
  • Coordinate and establish schedules for therapeutic groups that plan social events and special occasions creatively, all the while encouraging the growth and development of children.
  • Supervise and organize the completion of all daily shift responsibilities, including compliance with behavior support systems, room and duty fulfillment, medical visits, leisure activities, transportation to and from work, and homework assignments.
  • By the principles of the TCI, administer, model, and supervise behavior support and intervention for both groups and individuals. This includes the appropriate application of physical restraints when necessary.
  • Ensure that all necessary shift documentation, including mentor sheets, daily logs, communication logs, incident reporting, and behavior support monitoring, is completed.
  • Manage medical and emergencies.
  • Ensure that personnel are adequately apprised of any developments that may have transpired during the preceding workday, and oversee the punctual submission of documentation and records.

Requirements of Residential Supervisor Jobs:

Two years of college, the equivalent of two years in a residential facility with a comparable juvenile population, or both

  • Accredited by MAP
  • Prior supervisory experience is preferred.
  • proficient with computers, capable of learning new software applications, and well-versed in Microsoft Office and Internet Explorer.
